Our story

A neighbourhood staple, reimagined

A Bakery baking homemade pies, pastries and sweets since 1975.

In 1997, Phuc Nguyen and Thuy Tran took ownership, quietly weaving Vietnamese heart into every meat pie. They believed in generous portions for every customer — pies filled to the brim and donuts packed with cream.

Today, Donny and Kim carry that legacy forward under a fresh name — Cà Phê In is evolving its space while staying deeply rooted in its Vietnamese heritage. The brand seamlessly blends tradition with modern café culture, bringing a refreshed identity without losing what made it a local favourite. With the introduction of specialty coffee, authentic Vietnamese brews, and freshly prepared bánh mì, Cà Phê In delivers a richer and more vibrant experience. Despite its evolution, one thing remains unchanged — an unwavering commitment to bold, authentic flavour and quality in every cup and bite.

Fifty years of mornings

1975

1975 — The beginning

Zillmere Bakery opens on Handford Road. Fresh meat pies every morning, a proper oven, and a community that quickly makes it their own. A northside staple from day one.

1997

1997 — A new family

Phuc Nguyen and Thuy Tran take over, adding Vietnamese warmth, flavour, and an uncompromising work ethic to a place already loved by locals. Their children grow up in the shop.

Now

2022 — Present · A new chapter

Donny and Kim rebrand as Cà Phê In — same chunky pies, same family love, plus specialty Vietnamese coffee and a fresh identity. A new name for a timeless shop. Same oven. Same people. Same 5:30 AM start.

In the kitchen before the sun rises. Grew up in this shop and eventually took over the oven. The pies are his.

The expert on cakes and coffee. The most popular cakes are her creations.
